A variety of formal technical education backgrounds and construction experience at a minimum Certificate of Qualification level provides the foundation for required building science knowledge and defect recognition skills. An applicant must complete EITHER Option (A) or (B):
Option A or B
A. Have one of the following registrations in Ontario (submit a copy of certificate):
- Professional Engineer
- Registered Architect
- Certified Engineering Technologist/Technician
- Certified Architectural Technologist/Technician
- Provincial Certificate of Qualification (minimum 5 years) as:
- Electrician
- Plumber
- Carpenter
- Gas Fitter
- other certified construction trade as accepted by the OAHI Board of Examiners
- Certified Building Code Official
- Ontario New Home Warranty Builder (5 year minimum)
- Equivalent Ontario designation to above by special permission of the OAHI Board of Examiners
B. Complete additional courses (minimum of 4) in addition to baseline mandatory courses as specified by the OAHI Board of Examiners, based on a prior learning assessment analysis of your technical background (not done for non-members).
